The purpose of a sound technician is to operate and monitor mics so you can hear actors clearly, add in music tracks, sound effects and filter sound so it comes out clearly in a home or theater.
Associated Equipment:
Soumd mixing board, Various mics, LOTS of software, computer, headphones, recording equipment(board, filter, etc.) and a s*** load of patience/headache medication.
